Jujustu Kaisen’s weekly manga run may be over, but the hype is here to stay. JJK has become a cultural powerhouse over the past couple years. Even people who don’t watch anime have heard of Gojo. Usher and Megan The Stallion cosplayed as Gojo. Bruno Mars showed off his copy of volume 25 on Instagram. There was a Gojo look-alike contest in New York. There are skins on Fortnite. It was the bestselling media franchise in Japan for 2024 and recently it sold 100 million copies! Despite the magnitude of the JJK fanbase, the franchise is still missing 3 key products to solidify it as a classic.

  1. Non-Canon Movies

All the classic shonen franchises have them. The fans deserve weird plots put between arcs that make you guess when they’re supposed to take place. One Piece has several films. The most recent One Piece Film: Red grossed $201,387,600 worldwide at the box office. My Hero Academia the Movie: You’re Next which released in 2024, grossed $23,491,141. There’s a vast difference there and the point is Jujustu Kaisen would most likely be somewhere in between based on popularity, so why doesn’t it have a non-canon movie yet? Fans deserve to see wild scenarios, like Sukuna and Gojo teaming up to beat a legendary sorcerer. Fans deserve to see characters who aren’t around anymore. The demand is there, so why isn’t the supply?

2. Video Games

Dragonball fans have enjoyed a wealth of video game adaptations, including the Budokai Tenkaichi series, Xenoverse, Fighter Z, and recently Sparking Zero, which sold over 3 million copies in its first 24 hours. Naruto has the Ultimate Ninja, Clash Revolution, and Ninja Council series. One Piece has Burning Blood and Grand Battle. Yugioh also boasts a wide array of video games. In contrast, Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash has received mixed reviews from fans and critics. The fans deserve a quality project with some heart in it.

3. Spinoffs

Dragon Ball has multiple spinoffs. Even Dragon Ball’s card game, Dragon Ball Heroes, has an anime adaptation. One Piece has Ace’s story, the live-action Netflix series, and The One Piece, a retelling of the story made by Wit Studio. Naruto has Boruto. My Hero Academia has Vigilantes, which is getting an anime adaptation. If Gege Akutami does not create a sequel, at least a spinoff would be nice. It doesn’t even have to be written by Akutami.
