Shonen Jump’s Kagurabachi 72 finally revealed the hidden details of the Seitei War, which had been perplexing readers since the beginning of the series.

As Yura explains to Samura, it’s true that Shokoku Island appeared in the southeast seas of Japan (we learned this in Kagurabachi 66). It’s also true that the Shokokuans were naturally resistant to Datenseki and started the war by invading Japan.

The enchanted blades, made by Kunishige Rokuhira and wielded by the six swordsmen entrusted by him, changed the momentum of the war. The public was told that the Shokokuan savages were wiped out in a battle that they started and chose to continue fighting.

However, the truth is that the Shokokuan royal family, who led the invasion, were removed from power, and the nation surrendered to Japan. Peace was established for a short time—until the sword master lost his mind. He annihilated the surrendering country single-handedly, killing roughly 200,000 people. This calamity is known as the Malediction. The Kamunabi then locked him up for his crimes and told Japan he was a hero to save face.

They couldn’t execute the sword master because the spell used to create eternal contracts with enchanted blades relies on him as a pillar to uphold it. If he dies, all the other wielders would die as well. They locked the sword master away and hid the Shinuichi somewhere else to ensure the two would never come into contact.

Yura prophesied to Samura that the Malediction would happen again, except this time, it would be in Japan. Samura, worried about his daughter and the future of Japan, decided to kill the sword master and end the possibility of the prophecy.

Key Takeaways from Kagurabachi 72:

  • The wielders besides the sword master are truly heroes.
  • Uruha was likely left alive by Samura.
  • Samura most likely won’t actually kill any of the wielders, just as he let Chihiro live but severed his contract with Enten.
  • If the sword master dies, Chihiro may die as well.
  • Yura’s prophecy was a ploy to set his plan in motion, thereby fulfilling his prophecy.
  • Yura is willing to sacrifice his own men, who wield enchanted blades, like Hiruhiko.
  • Samura isn’t a villain.

Kagurabachi 73 will release on March 30. Thank you for reading!
