This article includes spoilers for Shueisha’s Kagurabachi 74.

The story begins on the day Kunishige Rokuhira is killed. The Kamunabi call Seiichi Samura to inform him of Rokuhira’s death, the stolen enchanted blades, and the escorts coming to take him to Kamunabi headquarters.

• Samura’s doorbell rings. Instead of his escorts, it’s Yura standing above their dead bodies.
• Yura gives Samura a proposition.
• Samura can work with him to save the future, or he can die here.
• Samura argues that the Hishaku are trying to trigger another Malediction because, without their interference, the Shinuichi wouldn’t be a threat.
• Yura counters that the Malediction was bound to happen—even to this day, the Shinuichi’s powers are blooming on Shokoku Island. As long as the Sword Saint lives, he threatens society.
• Yura’s goal is to wield the Shinuichi and “stop the Malediction.” Since the Shinuichi responds to the will of its user, he believes wielding it would halt the catastrophe.
• Samura can’t let Yura go unchecked, but the threat of the Sword Saint remains. He decides to work with Yura to kill the Sword Saint.
• Samura knows killing the Sword Saint would also kill all the wielders—but no one is happy anyway.

Flash forward: Iori has been living with her aunt for three years. After Rokuhira’s death, the Kamunabi took her into custody. The Masumi arrive on Samura’s orders to erase her memory. Iori has a love-hate relationship with being Samura’s daughter. He leaves her a note asking if she still loves him despite the suffering he’s caused her.

• Flash forward to the present: Toto arrives to assist the slashed Hiruhiko.
• Iori and Chihiro continue cutting down enemies.
• Iori is sad because she remembers everything.
• She wanted to be strong so Samura would feel comfortable staying by her side, but now she doubts he’ll ever return to her.
• Hiruhiko contemplates unsheathing Kumeyuri. His wounds are shallow.
• Chihiro knows Samura will appear if he unsheathes Enten, but he considers doing it to force Samura to face Iori again.
• Iori says she wants to see Samura—and Chihiro draws Enten.
• At the same time, Hiruhiko pulls Kumeyuri.
• Samura descends from the heavens like a guardian angel, his jet-black wings spread wide, as Iori stares up at his glory.
