As of Kagurabachi Chapter 72: Future, it may seem like the story’s biggest secrets have already had their lid blown off. How the Seitei war went down and the sins of the enchanted blade users were the story’s most obvious, important secrets. So, when Takeru Hokazano decided to reveal the Kamunabi’s truth before even hitting the 100-chapter mark, it shocked me—and I’m sure many others—to get this coveted information so early on.
This decision could mean one of two things: the story will be short
(120–150 chapters long) or the details of the war were only built up to seem important–when in reality, they’re just a catalyst to build up a long, well-thought-out story, one so rich with lore that the Seitei war will just look like a small blip when it’s all said and done. Only time will tell which strategy Takeru and Shonen Jump are taking. In the meantime, there are six mysteries that still underlie the world of Kagurabachi.
This article contains spoilers for Shueisha’s Kagurabachi.

Mystery #1: Chihiro’s Mother
Ms. Rokuhira has been a character of interest since the first chapter. She has never been mentioned by any character—there are no references to her. Not even Kunishige or Shiba has said anything about her. All we know is that Chihiro was born shortly after the Seitei War ended. Since Chihiro never talks about her, it’s safe to assume he’s never met her. At this point, the only people who would know of her are Shiba, Azami, or some top Kamunabi leaders.

Mystery #2: Hakuri’s Two Sorceries
This is a less talked about mystery that was glossed over during the Rakuzaichi auction arc. Hakuri is the only living person in Kagurabachi that has two sorceries. The only other person in history was the Sazanami family’s first patriarch who had Isou and Storehouse just like Hakuri. What makes Hakuri special? Why aren’t there more people with two sorceries?

Mystery #3: Kunishige Rokuhira’s Assassins
There were three sorcerers present during the attack on Kunishige’s residence according to Chihiro’s account of the incident. The Hishaku are composed of ten members. Six of them have been revealed: Yura, Treeshaku, Jeanshaku, Hiruhiko, Toto, and Kuguri.
Treeshaku looks a lot like one of the assassins and he coincidentally is never around when Chihiro is but technically we aren’t 100% sure he’s one of the assassins. One of the other assassins is a woman presumably by their silhouette but doesn’t look like Toto (the only confirmed female in the Hishaku so far). The last assassin can only be identified by their left leg which is garbed in samurai armor. That could be anyone besides Hiruhiko who I’m certain wasn’t there. Technically, we don’t know if we’ve already met all the assassins or not. They could be anyone.

Mystery #4: Kunishige’s Creation of Enten
Kunishige created six enchanted blades during the Seitei war: Cloud Gouger, Magatsumi, Kumeyuri, Tobimune, and two others that have not been revealed. Enten was created after the war for unknown reasons. It was kept secret even from the Kamunabi.
Taking into account Kunishige’s shame surrounding the Seitei war, Sword Saint, and Magatsumi, it’s weird that he would create another enchanted blade. Did he create it for Chihiro because he had an interest in swordsmanship? Was it intended for someone else? Why did he still have the Datenseki? Some people online theorize that he made it to destroy the other blades since Chihiro was able to break Cloud Gouger during his fight with Sojo. His real intentions may never be revealed.

Mystery #5: The Kamunabi Insider
There’s a Kamunabi member that leaked the location of the Rokuhira residence. This was revealed when Samura met up with the Hishaku after cutting down Chihiro. What reason would a high ranking Kamunabi member have to kill Kunishige? Are they one of the ten Hishaku members? Are they still in the Kamunabi?

Mystery #6: Uruha’s Death
In Kagurabachi Chapter 58: Reunion, Samura and Uruha have a duel in which Samura wins. Samura used a regular sword for the duel then switched to Tobimune to deliver the final blow. Samura cut down Chihiro right after and medically killed him. Chihiro was considered dead then his wounds healed on their own and he came back to life.
Samura has an ability with Tobimune that allows him to kill people and bring them back to life afterwards. He used it on Chihiro to sever his enchanted blade contract with Enten so he had the option to be free from the burden of revenge. People theorize that Samura used the same ability on Uruha to bring him back to life. Why else would he have delivered the finishing blow with Tobimune?
His body is currently in the Kamunabi’s forensics department. According to Shiba, they won’t reveal whether he’s alive or not yet. If he’s alive then it changes the opinion on Samura’s character completely. If he’s just trying to free the wielders from their contracts then it’s hard to even call him a villain. Would Chihiro still try to stop him? What about the Kamunabi?
In conclusion, these are what I believe are the biggest mysteries in Kagurabachi. I’m sure there are more important questions out there. Feel free to reply with any good ones you may have.
