What a Mother’s Day gift it was to get Shonen Jump’s Kagurabachi 78 Sunday, May 12th, 2025. Here’s a quick rundown of the exciting chapter with my own predictions for the future of the series.
- Hiruhiko was officially defeated by Samura. This marks his 3rd but certainly not last major loss in the series. He lost an arm and Kumeyuri which severely nerfs him. His future is uncertain but he’s still the most resilient antagonist in the series. I’m sure he’ll return.

- Kuguri returns to the series after being absent for several chapters. He attempts to sneak attack Samura but gets countered easily. We learn his sorcery is heat storage and release. He uses 7 months of built up energy to blow a hole in the hotel and escape Samura. While fleeing, with Toto and Hiruhiko, he admits that Samura is a monster that he can’t beat without wielding an enchanted blade.
- With Kumeyuri taken and the Samura-Yura deal broken, the Hishaku are betting it all on securing the Shinuichi right now. The remaining seven members will try to outsmart the Kamunabi top brass while Samura is distracted by Chihiro.
- Chihiro is attempting to talk Samura out of killing the sword master. Samura isn’t budging and is obviously hesitant to fight Chihiro again. Samura also says that killing all the wielders is necessary. There’s a theory that Samura doesn’t actually plan to kill all the wielders but just kill them momentarily like he did to Chihiro to sever their blade’s contract. This would have been a perfect time to tell Chihiro that plan but Samura doesn’t mention it so it adds more mystery to the Uruha situation.

- A man who handles security is sitting in a machine eerily similar to Inoichi from Naruto.

- The Kamunabi’s main leader allows the Hishaku to break through their first protective barrier so they can avoid a battle in public.
- It’s revealed that Shiba and Hiyuki are protecting the other two living sword bearers.
- Hakuri finally returns after 18 chapters of absence. He still looks a little rough but he’s determined to help in the fight. After being gone for almost half a year, Chihiro’s best wingman returns.
