Thank you, Shueisha gods, for another peak Kagurabachi Sunday.
Kagurabachi 84 dropped on June 29, 2025, at 11 a.m. EST on the Manga Plus app—let’s get into it.
Longest Fight Yet?
Takeru Hokazono continued the Chihiro vs. Samura showdown, which has been running uninterrupted since Kagurabachi 82. That officially makes it the longest continuous fight in the series.
What We Learned from Kagurabachi 84
- Chihiro can copy other enchanted blade abilities.
- Enten is officially a blade-breaker.
- No one involved in this fight is going all out.
It was wild seeing Chihiro copy Samura’s techniques. Out of his abilities, Aka is the one he uses least, with Kuro second, and Nishiki still clearly his go-to. I think the last time we saw Aka in action was against Kyora, when Chihiro engulfed Enten in Hiyuki’s flames. I’d really love to see him use it more often.
And let’s talk about Enten: when you damage one enchanted blade, maybe it’s a fluke. But Chihiro has now damaged two different blades, which means something real is going on with Enten’s power.
No One’s Going for the Kill
When I say no one in this fight is being serious, I mean no one actually wants to kill anyone.
That hesitation is leading to mistakes, restraint, and unspoken tension. Chihiro is clearly trying his hardest to break Tobimune—I’d say he’s going the hardest out of everyone. But even he doesn’t want to kill Samura, and that’s holding him back.
Samura’s also holding back. He could’ve killed the Masumi or healed his own eyes—but he didn’t. Instead, he just countered them. And even his counters were soft, almost symbolic. For example, Ro of the Masumi blew their element of surprise by speaking mid-attack, which gave Samura an easy opportunity to neutralize them.

And Chihiro literally says it at the end of the chapter:
“We don’t care how slashed up we get.”
Exactly. They know Samura isn’t trying to kill them, and they’re operating with that in mind.
Best Moment of the Chapter?
Chihiro’s fakeout. When he yelled, “Aka, Suzaku,” to bait Samura and then appeared behind him for an all-out strike?
That’s top-tier Chihiro tactics. Easily one of his smartest moves in the entire series so far.

What’s Next for Samura?
Some people think Chihiro will crack Tobimune, and Samura will respect that and agree to help. Personally? I think Chihiro will break Tobimune completely, removing Samura from the main story and effectively concluding his arc.
Think about it:
- The future generation (Chihiro) ends Samura’s self-sacrificing cycle.
- Samura would be forced to face Iori, not escape through battle.
- He’d have no way to defeat the Hishaku or the Sword Master.
- It pushes the story forward and lets the narrative circle back to Uruha, who’s still underdeveloped.
This is the perfect narrative point to wrap up Samura’s journey.
