Kagurabachi 113, the first chapter of the highly anticipated Kagurabachi Part 2, is out now on Viz and the MANGA Plus app.

Author Takeru Hokazono kicks off this new era with a prequel arc centered on the Seitei War. While much of the lore has been teased through flashbacks, we are finally getting a direct look at the conflict. Here is a breakdown of what we know so far and the new revelations from Chapter 113.

The Seitei War: What We Knew Before Part 2

Before the start of Part 2, the history of the war was established through fragments of dialogue:

  • The Arrival: Shokoku Island suddenly appeared in the southeast seas of Japan 22 years ago.
  • The Invasion: The islanders, who were naturally immune to Datenseki, launched an unprovoked invasion of Japan.
  • The Conflict: Known as “savages,” the islanders captured a large portion of Japan during a war described as “hell on earth.”
  • The Turning Point: 1 year and 5 months into the war, Kunishige Rokuhira crafted the Enchanted Blades. These blades shifted the momentum, allowing Japan to push back into enemy territory.
  • Surrender: The “Shokokuans” removed their leader and surrendered, signing a peace treaty that brought a temporary end to the fighting.
  • The Kamunabi: The government established the Kamunabi organization during this period.
  • The Malediction: Sword Master Akemura Soga decided the Shokokuans were too dangerous to exist, fearing their ideology would persist in future generations. He used the Malediction to massacre an estimated 200,000 Shokokuans.
  • The Aftermath: The other five Enchanted Blade wielders failed to stop Soga. He released the Shinuchi of his own free will and was subsequently imprisoned beneath Kamunabi HQ.
  • Public Perception: The public was told Soga was a hero who died in battle. This war was also the moment the general public became aware of the existence of sorcery.
  • Post-War: 18 years ago, the Enchanted Blades were sealed under Kunishige Rokuhira’s watch. Captured areas (like Yura’s home) were repopulated, though these zones often lacked government oversight.
  • Modern Day: The Kamunabi still struggle to suppress underground sorcerer families like the Sazanami. The Hishaku formed 4 years ago, and Kunishige was killed 3 years ago. Currently, only 250 kilos (551 pounds) of Datenseki are known to exist.

New Lore Revelations from Kagurabachi Chapter 113

Chapter 113 adds significant context to the lead-up of the war:

  • Irishima Island: 34 hours before Shokoku Island appeared, an island called Irishima experienced an earthquake that exposed a vein of Datenseki. Japan immediately claimed it as a critical resource.
  • The Skirmishes: Two years of skirmishes occurred between the Shokoku islanders and the Japanese over Irishima’s Datenseki. Despite using diversion tactics, the Shokokuans couldn’t stop Japan from harvesting the mineral.
  • The Mystery of Shokoku: The government remains largely ignorant about the Shokokuans. They appear human, live on a vegetation-covered island protected by an impenetrable force field, and rose literally from the ocean.
  • Shiba’s Role: It is revealed that Shiba served as the Soga clan’s guardian.
  • Kunishige’s Genius: The Kamunabi researched Datenseki for two years with zero progress. Shiba believed Kunishige—then a weapons dealer and swordsmith—was the only one capable of mastering the material.

Unanswered Questions & Theories

Despite the new info, several mysteries remain:

  1. The Timeline Gap: If the war began 22 years ago, followed by two years of skirmishes and a 1.5-year war, why did the Kamunabi wait a full half-year to seal the Enchanted Blades 18 years ago?
  2. The Peace Treaty: How much time actually elapsed between the surrender and Soga’s Malediction massacre?
  3. Pre-Kamunabi Sorcerers: What defined a “government sorcerer” before the Kamunabi was officially formed?
  4. The Power Structure: Who decided the leadership of the Kamunabi?
  5. The Families: How many sorcerer families exist, and what role did they play in the war effort?
  6. Lawless Zones: Why were previously captured areas considered more dangerous than the rest of Japan?
  7. The Survivors: Are there truly no Shokokuan survivors? In a war of this scale, it’s rare for there to be no prisoners or dissenters. Was there not a single Shokokuan in Japan when the Malediction occurred?
