Who is Soya Sazanami? The “Confused Man” of Kagurabachi Explained

So, who is Soya Sazanami, the very confused man who graced the Kagurabachi bonus chapter between Kagurabachi 112 and Kagurabachi 113? He is none other than Hakuri’s obsessive older brother.

A Quick Snapshot of Soya:

  • The Obsession: He has a bizarre, deep-seated fixation on Hakuri.
  • Family Status: He is Kyora Sazanami’s eldest son.
  • The Fallen Heir: He was set to become the next patriarch of the Sazanami clan before the Rakuzaichi auction was destroyed.

Soya’s Twisted Relationship with Hakuri

He’s definitely not the type of big brother you’d want in your life. Soya was obsessed with Hakuri specifically because his younger brother was seen as “weak.” This dynamic likely developed early in their childhood; Kyora never did anything to stop the bullying, so it carried on well into their teenage years.

Soya used Hakuri as both a physical punching bag and an ego booster. Ironically, he is the reason Hakuri is so physically durable today. Over the years, Soya used several items to torture Hakuri, including:

  • Pliers
  • Jump ropes
  • Wood blocks
  • A literal chair

In a poetic twist, Hakuri subconsciously teleported these items to his Storehouse and rediscovered them during their climactic fight at the auction.

The Genius Trait: Isou and Storehouse

Upon learning that Hakuri possessed the same “genius trait” as the former patriarch—the ability to use both Isou and Storehouse—Soya became enraged. He couldn’t handle the fact that his “failure” of a little brother was actually more capable than he was.

While Soya attempted to kill Hakuri, he was ultimately defeated. Hakuri’s Isou incapacitated him, but as we now know, it did not kill him. Assuming the other Sazanami members fought to the death, Soya and Hakuri are likely the only surviving members of their clan.

Will Soya join Chihiro’s side? Probably not, but in this series, never say never.
