Kagurabachi Chapter 121 is the first chapter since the long-awaited anime announcement!
The Kagurabachi character popularity poll results are in from Japan:
- Chihiro Rokuhira
- Yoji Uruha
- Hakuri Sazanami
- Togo Shiba
- Seiichi Samura
The only shocker here is Uruha, whose popularity has quite frankly blown me away. If he was in the top ten, I’d be happy that he managed to slip into the top rankings, but to be number 2 is perplexing for me. We know little to nothing about Uruha. Before the Assault on Kamunabi Headquarters arc, he was pronounced dead.
You compare him to Samura, who was introduced around the same time, and the screen time, backstory, and artwork are night and day. I’m very interested to know why the Japanese audience likes him so much despite his lack of appearances. It’s also surprising that no villains made it to the top 5. I expected Hiruhiko or Yura to make it.
The Irishima Talks – End
The Irishima Talks ended how many fans expected.
The Elite Squad Curse persists throughout Kagurabachi.

The Elite Squad Curse is one of the longest-running jokes in Kagurabachi, and I’m glad that it lives on even in flashbacks.
I was holding out hope that Shiba would teleport everyone away after dropping that meteor on Ariu, but they tried to finish him off instead. Maybe they thought it would be their best chance to beat Ariu and they wouldn’t survive a second encounter. Maybe it was just warrior pride. Either way, it was a bad decision.
Their confidence in being healed when they arrived back in Japan makes me wonder who their healer is. As far as we’ve seen, Char is the most capable healer in Kagurabachi. She was able to restore Chihiro’s severed arm. What healer could have healed the hole in Mashiro’s stomach and Yoshinojo’s bitten-off tongue?
It’s becoming clearer why the enchanted blades were necessary. Four of Japan’s strongest fighters were defeated by one man. The Mikaboshi have no intention of negotiating. They are only making demands and threatening war. They have a grudge against the Soga clan that spans 1,000 years. They have an impenetrable force field around their island.
I see some people within the Kagurabachi community are spreading their understanding not only to Kunishige but to Akemura as well, and that’s a slippery slope to becoming a genocide defender.
The difference between kunishige rokuhira and akemura soga
What Kunishige did was protect his country from war. What Akemura did was kill innocent, surrendering, and non-threatening people. There’s a big difference between defeating your opponent and destroying their entire bloodline.
Ariu killed two of Akemura’s family members out the gate, so I understand the intensity of his hatred, but they were both warriors on a military mission. The women and children, who are so often the casualties of war started by men, have nothing to do with Ariu nor any say on their military actions.
This isn’t so different from when a Black person would commit or just be accused of a crime, and the White folks would go to the Black side of town and burn it down in the name of “retribution.” You look like them, you know them, and they’re from your community, so you must agree with them—and that gives us the right to terrorize you. It’s the same mindset.

On a larger scale, let’s say hypothetically the USA went to war and lost. Should the winning country kill us all because we may have the same ideology of our former leader? Even though we aren’t part of the military, and half the country—or whatever hypothetical percentage—didn’t vote for that leader. Even the people that did vote for that leader may have not supported war. It makes no sense to wipe out an entire population based on the actions of a ruling class.
It also may have benefited Japan to keep the Mikaboshi people around. They understand Datenseki. They are stronger than the average sorcerer. Why not keep them and assimilate them into your society? They’ve been living in the ocean for a thousand years, surviving off of bugs and not getting any sunlight. Who knows how their culture and scientific achievements could have benefited the world?
As this flashback unravels, I hope to have a clearer picture of Akemura’s mindset.
